Porn Addiction …. Is it worth chasing?

Porn addiction can be compared to running toward a mirage in the desert.

At first sight, there seems to be relief, comfort, and satisfaction. Your mind convinces you that the next video, image, or escape experience will satisfy that thirst inside of you. However, this is like the shimmering mirage in the desert … as you approach it, it vanishes, and you are left thirstier, emptier, and more restless than before. You will not find the "high" you are seeking there, because it is an illusion.

In life, water alone will not provide you with survival, although water is a necessity of life. To really flourish in life, in addition to water, we need food, shelter, air, and love. Similarly, temporary pleasures can feel like a necessity during times of weakness, but these cannot sustain your soul, purpose, or relationships in any way. They can only provide brief relief, not fullness of life.

Rather than chasing illusions for breadth periods of time, one will need to learn to pause and dig deeper. Think of digging into the ground... with effort, patience, and perseverance, until you find an actual well of drinkable water. That well is representative of sustainable joy, real accomplishment, and lasting inner peace. Unlike watching videos, images, or escape experiences, it takes work to find "the well", alongside discipline, self-awareness, and perseverance.

The pinnacle of pleasure is not in an illusion, rather it rests in reality…in the evolution of the self, in the bonds of deep loving respect, in the pride of self-discipline, and enjoying the bliss of accomplishment. When you turn away from the illusion and start to dig your own well, you find that satisfaction is not here one day and gone the next. It is not fleeting- it is eternal. Fulfillment is not empty like an illusion, it is deep and rich and is far more life-giving than an illusion could ever offer, even if the illusions are well-crafted. The journey is harder, but the reward is an offering that grows and replenishes itself and you wish to offer.
